2013 ootd recap + the year of a+s

Tuesday, December 31, 2013

2013 has been a year of snapbacks, sneakers, sweaters and god bless them skorts which make life a whole bunch easier to live in the shortest of hems while still being able to maintain a certain level of modesty...

But more than anything, 2013 has been a wonderful year of blessings and building new and meaningful relationships.

It was also the year of A+S: a super fun series of twin ootd's with Ana! Expect more from our collaboration this year. :D

As we welcome 2014, I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to all those who supported me and stood by me for all these years. You truly make me look forward to each new year in a positive light.

Cheers to 2014! Let it be the best year of our lives yet!

2013 has probably been the busiest and the hardest year of my life but it helped me learn to prioritize and see what's most important for me. I've changed a lot of things this December to make sure in 2014 I have more opportunities to do what I really like, blogging definitely being one of them.

Above I present you the 2013 outfits that gathered the most comments and likes on this blog. I hope you like some of them!

Happy New Year and may all your wishes come true in 2014! Thanks for your continuous support <3

romwe winter clearance sale (up top 70% off)

Monday, December 30, 2013

In true Fashion Eggplant/Sarah/Shopinggera tradition, how's about we end 2013 with an announcement of ROMWE's biggest sale of the year.

ROMWE's Winter Clearance Sale has the best of 2013 at up to 70% off. Now's your chance to finally click "checkout" on that wishlist you've been harboring for months.

Sale starts today. Get busy cause once they're sold out, that's it. Definitely no more restocking to make room for ROMWE's new offerings for 2014....can't wait for that, it promises to be awesome! :D

or take a minute to check out some of my favorites below...

The sale is also a great opportunity to stock on transition pieces for the upcoming spring/summer like these pretty mini dresses and light jackets. Kinda hitting my head against the wall right now cause I purchase quite a few of these at full price...no regrets though...

But note to self for 2014 is to be a little more patient, a little less impulsive and wait for opportunities like this. :P

An easy last minute beauty idea for New Year's eve... Head to a pharmacy or local Sephora and pick up a shimmery gold eyeshadow for a subtle touch of sparkle. This would go great with a burgundy lipstick and just a hint of mascara. If you want go for a bolder eye, add eyeliner, layer on more mascara and keep the lips bare/nude.

Look of the Day: Military Coat

IMG_0410IMG_0392IMG_0403doubleIMG_0420

I've been looking all over for a perfect maxi coat in black, but all of them looked a bit too goth for my taste, so I ended up buying this midi one I found on sale. Can't wait to wear it with ripped jeans and shorts in spring.

On a side note, I don't remember ever being able to wear a thin coat over a tee 3 days before the New Year's and not catching a pneumonia, looks like we've had a whole additional month of autumn this year, looking forward to wearing snow boots in May :D

I'm wearing:

Coat - River Island (on sale!)
Tee and jewelry - Topshop
Jeans - Chicnova
Boots - Zara (similar ones: 1, 2, 3, 4)
Lipstick - Mac

animal cruelty protest - woman tortured and force fed in shop window

I wouldn't normally post something like this but I believe in shock value and people really need to be reminded of this issue and many others similar to it...

“A young woman was restrained, force-fed and injected with cosmetics in a high street shop window as part of a hard-hitting protest against animal testing.
Jacqueline Traide was tortured in front of hundreds of horrified shoppers in a bid to raise awareness and end the practise.
The 24-year-old endured 10 hours of experiments, which included having her hair shaved and irritants squirted in her eyes, as part of a worldwide campaign by Lush Cosmetics and The Humane Society.
The disturbing stunt took place in Lush’s Regent Street store, one of the UK’s busiest shopping streets.
Jacqueline appeared genuinely terrified as she was pinned down on a bench and had her mouth stretched open with two metal hooks while a man in a white coat force-fed her until she choked and gagged.
The artist was also injected with numerous needles, had her skin braised and lotions and creams smeared across her face.
Passers-by were gobsmacked to see Jacqueline, a social sculpture student at Oxford Brookes University, forced to have a section of her head shaved.
The gruesome spectacle aimed to highlight the cruelty inflicted on animals during cosmetic laboratory tests and raise awareness that animal testing is still a common practise.
The Humane Society International and Lush Cosmetics have joined forces to launch the largest-ever global campaign to end animal testing for cosmetics.
The campaign, launched to coincide with World Week for Animals in Laboratories, is being rolled out simultaneously in over 700 Lush Ltd shops across forty-seven countries including the United States, Canada, India, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea and Russia.
Lush campaign manager Tamsin Omond said: “The ironic thing is that if it was a beagle in the window and we were doing all these things to it, we’d have the police and RSPCA here in minutes.
“But somewhere in the world, this kind of thing is happening to an animal every few seconds on average.
“The difference is, it’s normally hidden. We need to remind people it is still going on.”

For more information about the campaign, visit www.fightinganimaltesting.com

My favorite airport look is one that's comfy, but still stylish. Model Lily Aldridge got this just right while at LAX airport in an oversized chambray button-down shirt, Givenchy bag, leather pants and Chloé studded boots. Now if only I could look that beautiful with a fresh face!

holiday sales you shouldn't miss

Saturday, December 28, 2013

It isn't quite end of season sale yet but I've already spotted a few holiday sales that were too tempting to resist.

I didn't really have time to shop pre-Christmas even if I was out almost everyday and events took place in the malls. Our schedules were tight without much room to browse and now that events season is over, I'm really enjoying my free time with Nikola and the fam. It's also my opportunity to finally go shopping for myself and where better than scour all the exciting holiday sales that are happening now.

Here's a few of my purchases and ongoing holiday sales that are too god to pass up.

First up, Jeffrey Campbell at SM Fashion Forum!
JC's hardly ever go on sale here but now, several of them are marked down. I couldn't resist these JC Benni's which are perfect for our weather all year round.

Penshoppe! Penshoppe has one of the best fitting pants locally, trust me. They fit like a glove and flatter in all the right places + they're extremely affordable. At full price, they only cost about 1k/pair. On sale, they're ridiculously cheap. Got this polka pair for only P399 while the baroque zara doppelganger was a steal at just P799.

Mango Touch.

I love stalking this store each time they go on sale, they have the prettiest shoes and bags with generous mark-downs...think 50%-70% off...

RAOUL, Marc Jacobs and Kenneth Cole at Designer Blvd...got these luxury bags for a minute fraction of their original price plus I love how they don't scream designer...

What about you? Have you been shopping lately? I would love you to add to this list. :)

10 Things You Didn't Know About Me

Hey guys! I hope you're having a great weekend! I thought it would be fun to break the outfit post routine before the New Year's and do something new, so I came up with this 10 Thing post, I hope you enjoy it and let me know if you share any of my weird habits :)
IMG_0415 -
1. I try to look serious in the pictures, although I'm a complete goofball and this sometimes gets me into trouble :)
2. I can't live 5 hours without sweets. I have to eat at least three types of desserts per day, otherwise I'll feel miserable. Once I dieted for over a week to see if sugar was the reason of my breakouts, but by the end of the week I didn't care about breakouts anymore. Actually I'm eating a cupcake even when I'm writing this :)
Untitled-1
3. I'm a quitter. Some of the most memorable things I quit were a piano school, a ballet class, a sewing class, all of the jobs I had working for someone, a French class, a Spanish class, a Polish class, various business projects, sports and even my own clothes store I've had for about 3 years. I get bored of stuff so easily I'm surprised how this blog has become one of the longest term commitments in my life.
4. Speaking of commitments, very few people know I've been married for 2 and a half years, but my "husband" and I agreed to never call each other "husband" and "wife". We prefer "boyfriend" and "girlfriend." :)
IMG_3612-
5. It's normal for me to go without sleeping for two days straight and then have a couple-hour nap and be as good as new :)
6. I love my heels to death but the happiest days of my life are always the ones, when I'm wearing flats.
7. If I were to name an item of clothing I'm obsessed with, it would be a coat.I have at least 30 of them in my closet and this number is growing each month.

8. The country I want to visit the most is Iceland, it's one of my biggest dreams and I have to admit, I don't do anything in particular to fulfill it, because otherwise I'll have to come up with another dream :)

9. I hate coffee! It always gives me headaches and the smell of it makes me sick! I also can't stand all kinds of alcohol (except maybe sangria with a lot of juice in it).
10. I don't drive because I'm a complete panic freak. Although this is something I'm attempting to fix.

persunmall wishlist for 2014 fashion trends

Friday, December 27, 2013

I sold most of my clothes at last month's Bloggers United and I'm back to revamping my wardrobe.

To avoid overspending and make sure that everything I purchase can be easily worked in to the clothes I still have left in my closet, I create collages.

These take only a few minutes to create but make it a lot simpler to visualize different mix and match possibilities.

For this month, I chose to base my picks according to 2014's hottest fashion trends (read more here) which Persunmall happens to have an abundance of.  Shopping under one website has a lot of benefits like additional discounts upon checkout and waived fees on shipping charges which gives you more budget to spend on clothes...that's always a good thing! :)

So anyway, my favorites from Persunmall!

Just click on the corresponding numbers below each set to check them out.

I just love versatile pieces like the one I'm wearing on these pictures - it's supposed to be a jacket, but I like it even better worn as a dress. And don't even get me started on plaid - for me it's a perfect winter pop of color that I still refuse to get over.

I'm wearing:

Biker jacket  - Chicwish
Plaid coat - Love
White shirt - StyleMint
Heels - Zara (similar ones: 1, 2, 3, 4)
Cap - Chicnova (a gorgeous one here)

2014 fashion trends - the good, bad + where to buy

As 2013 comes to a close, here's a summary of 2014's fashion trends: what to look out for and where to get them.

Colors are pretty much an extension of Fall 2013: metallics, icy pastels, black and white, white on white are still tres chic this coming Spring.

2014 fashion trends
2014 fashion trends
2014 fashion trends for women
2014 womens fashion
2014 spring summer fashion trends
As for silhouettes, think boxy and avante gard-ish along with classic tailored pieces. The oxford shirt makes a strong comeback but with contrasting collars this time around...

These photos were taken from runway shows in Paris but you can easily find more affordable alternatives in your local mall.

For eye-catching, out of the box bomber jackets try Forever21, Zara, Romwe and Jhajing (on instagram)

ss14 fashion trends
Boxy jackets can be found at Nava, Zara, and Stradivarius among others...

spring summer 2014 trends
For a large assortment of affordable, designer inspired coats, visit Romwe.com

coat trends 2014
For collared shirts, my favorite go-to shopping places are Uniqlo, Pink Manila, Romwe, and The Ramp.

spring summer 2014
A big favorite of mine among these trends are these shift blouses...the extended sleeves found on the runway ( as seen in the photos below) can be bought in Zara but don't really suit petite frames like me. For a slightly more universal cut, try SM Ladies Fashion.

spring summer trends 2014
I don't really care for tea length skirts, I think they are difficult to pull off unless you're tall and stick thin so I'm veering away from this one...

2014 fashion forecast
Tuxedo stripe pants - skip the black with a white stripe, too predictable, go for a reverse effect instead. Saw a lot of these at Sm Ladies Fashion and some of them were even on sale.

trouser trend 2014

Contrary to popular belief, wide legged pants are flattering on almost anyone, just make sure you find the right cut for your body type and try to wear with heels as much as possible to elongate your figure. Try Topshop and Dorothy Perkins for denim, Petite Monde for a variety of colors in fluid materials.

2014 pants
As for trends, 2014 still bears a strong influence from 2013's favorites - mod, glamorous tribal (think lustrous fabrics from morocco and embroidery from india), a slightly refined version of grunge, and yep, crop tops and sweater dressing aren't going anywhere anytime soon...

And finally....

My favorite subject. SHOES. For 2014, it's pretty much a mixture of everything...there's kitten heels, platforms, sandals, sneakers, boots, square toes, pointy square toes, flatforms, wedges, knee-high boots, ankle boots, mid-calf boots, pumps and many, many more...it almost feels as if different designers took their inspiration from different decades, starting as early as the 1900s with Miu Miu's lace up boots...sort of reminds me of what the pioneers wore. And then of course on its polar opposite are the elegant and to die for pumps by Christian Dior...

2014 shoe trends
Just like with clothes, I think the key for 2014's footwear is comfort and confidence. Wear whatever makes you feel most confident and comfortable in because when you feel good, you look good and naturally stand out in a crowd.
