As a blogger AND self-confessed SHOPAHOLIC, I tend to accumulate a lot of stuff and things sometimes get out of hand. There are times when I have a hard time looking for certain things because it’s hidden underneath a pile of stuff. It can get really frustrating especially when I’m in a hurry. Even worse, there are times when I totally forget about owning something and end up buying the same thing. What a waste. It also doesn’t help that I have a partner who is constantly changing sports and hobbies. These things tend to take up a lot of space and it makes organizing my home really difficult.
So one day, I decided to stop complaining and start acting. I did some spring cleaning and divided all the stuff we don’t use anymore into 2 bins, one for donation and one for selling.
If I was wealthier, then maybe I would have donated everything, but I’m not and I need to pay back those credit card bills and make up for being a compulsive shopper. I found a lot of things in my house that are no longer useful to us but could still be of use to other people…old cellphones, gadgets, shoes, boxing gloves, guitar, clothes:
and this juicer that I bought for P12,000 and stopped using when our maid left. I am willing to part with it for only P7,000 (neg.) instead of it gathering dust and getting broken in storage.
I live in a condo so having a garage sale is out of the question so what to do instead? Post them on OLX.ph (formerly Sulit.com.ph)! Unlike other classifieds where posting stuff is a multi-step, tedious process, on OLX, you can do it solely by mobile which makes the job a lot easier and a lot less nakakatamad (you can also do it via laptop or computer but I find this route a lot more convenient for me). All you have to do is download the app (available for both android and ios), snap a photo using your smartphone, upload and post via the OLX app.
It’s just like instagramming. It’s quick, fast and very similar to casting your reel into a pond full of fishes. From experience, it only takes a few days before someone bites and you can feel #YesYaman again! :P
Like the common saying goes: “Someone’s trash is someone else’s treasure”. By getting rid of extra clutter, I managed to organize my home and make some extra cash on the side!
Now, are you ready to take action and start selling?
To ensure a safe and successful ad placement, check out these tips:
- Use original photos and make sure they are clear and show your product in detail
- Price fairly, do research, check out the current market value. Remember, it’s better to sell at a loss than to have it breakdown in storage.
- Protect yourself. Never share your password or username. Meet up with buyers or make sure payments have been made before shipping your item out.
- Share your ad through social media sites like Facebook and Twitter
- And lastly, be honest. Put yourself in your buyers shoes. Would you purchase your product? F not, why? Adjust to make it more marketable.
