The first time I tried Vikings was when their branch in SM Mall Of Asia was newly opened. Back then, I wasn't very impressed with the selection and quality of their food. I thought it was stretched out and lacking in authentic flavor. When I was asked to review their 5th branch in SM Megamall's Fashion Hall, I was a bit apprehensive but in the end obliged because I was curious to see if any improvements have been made since my last visit.
I am happy to announce that I experienced a complete 180.
Unlike before, the new Vikings at Megamall boasts a spread that can compete with the most posh hotel buffet in Manila. Not only that, the food is extremely fresh, perfectly cooked and seasoned.
Gone are the grilling hotdogs and dishes that look like they were stewing since morning. This time around, everything looked fresh out of the kitchen. I was completely satisfied with everything I sampled that day.
Vikings at SM Megamall has art-themed interiors which appear clean and very crisp. The booths are comfortable and encourage unhurried meals mixed with good conversation.
The buffet itself features a lot of on the spot cooking like their pasta bar which makes fresh noodles from scratch. There's a also a Ramen Bar, Shabu-Shabu, and a create your own Mongolian Bowl section.
Probably the crowning piece of all buffet restaurants is their roasting station. Vikings has one of the best and like I said earlier, at par with all the hotel buffets I've tried. Choose from USDA Angus Prime Rib, Turkey, Porkloin and Lamb. My personal favorites were the prime rib and lamb which was not at all gamey and super tender.
Another thing I love about Vikings is that drinks are already included in the buffet price plus there's a wide variety to choose from. The choices are as diverse as fresh fruit shakes, cold Milo and bottomless draft beer on tap.
With their buffet price starting at just P688 for adults, it's no wonder that Vikings is such a hit with Filipinos who love and patronize a place that gives them the most bang for their buck. Sulit talaga.
