ayala malls style origins: allison harvard + tim yap

Friday, June 6, 2014

I was at Glorietta yesterday for a live version of Tim Yap Dish On Fashion with special guest Allison Harvard of America's Next Top Model Fame.

The live talk show was set by Ayala Malls to continue its Style Origins celebrations.

Who better to keep Filipinos at the top of their fashion game than these two highly respected and renowned fashion icons?

Know as the "Twiggy" of our generation, Allison is best known for her doe-eyed gaze and her privileged-punk personal style.

And Tim Yap, we all know that Tim is always at the forefront of fashion. Well-informed and impeccably tasteful, Fashionistas in the Philippines look to him for the latest news in fashion and lifestyle trends.

At yesterday's talk show, Tim and Allison shared some important Do's and Don't's as well as some of their favorite personal fashion "must-have's".

Here are some of the more memorable excerpts from yesterday's discussion:

Some were pretty surprising just like Allison's quirky obsession with wigs. She has over a hundred of them and according to her, "It's the easiest way to express the different facets of your personality on a whim. Each wig represents a different mood and character". Aside from wigs, she also can't live without her backpack, oversized sweaters and her ratty old Nirvana "Nevermind" shirt (because of that, this model automatically gets 100+ fan points from me!).

With his work and fame relying largely on his social media presence, Tim Yap cannot live without his smartphone and a nice fitting jacket. Nothing like a gorgeous jacket to take your outfit from ho-hum to remarkable and ready for any occasion. Being a big fan of outerwear myself, I totally agree.

Despite their different opinions in style, there is one thing they both unanimously agree on.

We must dress for ourselves and not to impress other people. Fashion is a channel to express our own individuality so it is important to always inject our personality into the things we wear so we exude an aura of confidence and style. It's okay to follow trends but we need to make sure that we wear the clothes and not the other way around.

To wrap up the event, Tim and Allison called in the winners of a makeover contest they held on Instagram to showcase their new looks as styled by them:
All four winners took the stage in unique head to toe looks from brands found in Ayala Malls.

With this, the duo once again proved that you need not look further than an Ayala Mall for outstanding style choices.

Despite being in this business for several years now, I still learned a lot from yesterday's show.
